I help teams make complicated digital work visible, simpler and buildable.
Lead product designer for complex enterprise workflows, internal tools and legacy systems.
I work in the hard part, before the screen: dense processes, dislocated ownership and teams working from different versions of the truth. I use research, information architecture, writing, prototyping and shared artefacts to give users, business and technology teams one view of the product, and make it simpler, better.
Based in the Eastern Cape. Remote-first, with planned travel to Johannesburg or Cape Town for workshops and key delivery moments.

METHOD
How I work
Start with the workflow, not the screens.
Beware of a bad idea done well. Digitising a messy process just makes the mess look official.
Make the invisible problem discussable.
Teams often disagree because they are arguing from different pictures of the same work.
Small artefacts. Big alignment.
An agenda that sets context. Meeting notes that distil consensus. A shared whiteboard. A screenshot with notes. A doodle on a napkin. The artefact is not the point. The shared understanding it creates is.
More homework. Less meetings.
Set the context, frame the questions and do the homework before the meeting. Save face-to-face time for the tricky conversations.

About me
From pre-dot-bomb to design systems
My career kicked off in the fin de siècle weeks before the Dot-com bubble burst: not the most auspicious timing. After the late-1990s internet goldrush, I moved into agency work, freelance teams, content strategy, UX, UI, product design, enterprise systems, remote delivery and teaching.
